Success at la Fête des Enfants!

This summer, families [were] invited to discover Park Jean-Drapeau’s treasures at the Fête des enfants, August 14 to 16! The Fête is a place for self-expression and creation for children and their families, and [...] once again offer[ed] concerts and dance shows as well as creative and athletic workshops, cooperative games, and inflatable climbing structures… free! - Taken from the Parc Jean Drapeau Website

Kids Help Phone also took part in the celebrations by supplying entertaining puppet shows to all ages in its very own theatre tent!

The Puppet shows conveyed the importance of the reliable and safe service available to Kids aged five to twenty one throughout Canada. The puppet shows, complete with a 1-800-668-6868 song and Nestle Chocolate bar giveaways were a great success! A heartfelt thank you for all those that made this past weekend’s events such a great success! The volunteers at the tent, who operated the puppet shows, lead the Kids Help Phone quizzes, set up and all around ensured the tent’s smooth running in which was at times excruciating heat, were all tremendous. Fun was had by not only the kids who participated; the volunteers had just as an amazing time! We’re already looking forward to taking part in next year’s festival!

Words from a Student Ambassador

I learned about the Kids Help Phone Student Ambassador Program last fall, as I flipped through an issue of Montreal Families. In a few short lines and a picture of a telephone, it stated that Kids Help Phone was looking for teen volunteers to spread awareness in the schools and communities. Within minutes of reading the ad, I knew I wanted to take part in this program because of how much I believe in Kids Help Phone and the services they offer. I attended the training conference in October of '08, and from then on I was hooked. I recently joined the SAC, which gives me a chance to actively participate in the actual planning of events and fund raising for Kids Help Phone, which is so engaging and stimulating to me. Every envelope I fill, every call I make, every smile to a counselor I see as I walk by, it all means so much to me. There are no words to describe how glad I am to be part of this program, except a heartfelt 'Thank you'.

Happy 20th Anniversary!

Since our phone lines went live in May 1989, Kids Help Phone’s professional counsellors have been providing help and hope to young people in your community. We’re celebrating 20 years of being there for kids!

Help Build our Virtual Mosaic!

Join us in celebrating this important milestone by helping us build our special 20th Anniversary Virtual Mosaic.
Post a photo and message online to show your support of our cause. Each photo will make up the mosaic and will eventually reveal a hidden picture that represents the important work we do.
For each image that you submit, your name will be entered in a draw for a special prize from one of our sponsors!

Visit our Mosaic website now and click on the big pink “Share With Us” button to get started.

On May 16, 1989, Kids Help Phone’s phone lines went live. Here is CityTV Toronto’s coverage of Kids Help Phone’s first day of service.

When Kids Help Phone’s lines opened in 1989, young people’s access to confidential, anonymous counselling was revolutionized. Kids began to reach out by the hundreds of thousands, and they haven’t stopped since.

Twenty years later Kids Help Phone has touched the lives of a generation of children and youth in Canada. Thanks to this remarkable relationship between young people and our counsellors, we continue to be a trusted source of support, information and hope for kids today.
A complete historical timeline is available here.

Now, more than ever, we need your help to ensure we can continue being there for kids. Kids who often have nowhere else to turn for safe and trustworthy help. When parents, schools and social services are unavailable, closed, backlogged or simply not accessible because of distance, Kids Help Phone is there.
With your support, our next 20 years will be as successful as the first.
